Pairing food with wine can be a daunting task…if you put too much thought into it that is. At WineCOW we encourage you to drink whatever you want whenever you want. Don’t worry about matching the right wine with the right food. Drink what you like, because a good wine and a good meal go well together no matter what the combination. But, on the other hand, knowing how to combine wine with food does have the ability to make a good meal great…or at least impress your friends.

PAIRING YOUR BURGER WITH THE RIGHT WINE

It’s no real surprise that hamburgers are at the top of the list as America’s most popular grilled food, according to the 2004 Weber® GrillWatch™ survey. Especially this time of year when the grills are cooking overtime. And, nothing goes with summer better than a grilled burger and the right glass of wine. So, whether you're into bold flavors or basic toppings, top off your burger with a glass of wine. Here are some suggestions for the right wine to go with your burger topping du jour.

Basic Cheese Burger – Merlot

Grilled pineapple
– Fruity Chardonnay (white) or Beaujolais (red)

Grilled white onions and mushrooms with Swiss cheese – Sangiovese (or Chianti)

Pickles (or relish) and mustard – White Zinfandel
Offering a soft and fruity balance to these piquant flavors

Lettuce, tomato, raw red onion, ketchup and mayonnaise – Syrah (or Shiraz)

Chili Cheese Burger – Zinfandel (red)
This spicy character matches well with the spiciness of the chili

Black pepper, gorgonzola and hot mustard – Cabernet Sauvignon

Avocado, cucumber and sprouts – Sauvignon Blanc (white) or Pinot Noir(red)
